From river to mountain
The route follows off-road tracks beside the River Arade to Silves for a visit to the castle and the Algarve’s oldest city. It then continues through changing mountain scenery, from drier ridges to green valleys and water-filled streams.
At the Passadiços do Demo, clients may take an easy, optional walk of about 30 minutes. It ends with a challenging suspension bridge across the stream.
Lunch, medronho and Fóia
After an explanation about Portuguese cork, lunch is served at a place with a wide view. Lunch is included in the listed price.
The afternoon visits Monchique, then continues off-road to a distillery for a tasting of medronho spirit and honey. The route reaches Fóia at 900 metres, the highest point in the Algarve, with views over the western Algarve and part of the Costa Vicentina.
The return to Portimão follows a different, easier route, at times using tracks used by the Dakar Rally when it passed through the Algarve.
